Regal 2100 LSR Captain's Report
Regal has been a family owned business for over 30 years and has seen its share of changes in the boat manufacturing industry. Regal responded accordingly with the 2100 LSR, the company?s initial offering of a stepped hull design.
Paul Kuck and sons Duane and Tim Kuck had noticed that many boats by different manufacturers were similar in design. The focus quickly became how to produce vessels with the features buyers were asking for and to do so with competitive pricing. Through 94? and 95? Regal toyed with the stepped hull design, eventually arriving at its FasTrac Hull.
A stern drive system, FasTrac uses mini strakes along the chines. This reduced or in some cases eliminated cavitation. The hull noticeably stuck to the water while reducing its own drag.
Insuring that the boat will be used with frequency, Regal design engineers scored their biggest coup with the 21? 10? bowrider and its 45-gallon fuel cell. If cruised at 3000 rpm, this single screw, 190-hp Mercury has a range of 177 nautical miles.
If your pleasure boating plans include tubing or skiing take note of the time to plane?only 4 seconds. Tack on an additional five seconds and the Faria Speedo reads 30 mph.
Speaking of instrumentation, it?s simplistic, as it should be on a craft of this size. Set into a burlwood dash, fuel and speed gauges are inset above the 12V panel switches. To the right of the gauges is a lone panel switch labeled ?mode?. This allows you to scroll through the multi-functional liquid crystal display showing the current time; depth; trip log; engine hours; and outside temperature.
You?ll want to check the tach to make sure the engine is running because this boat is sure quiet.
At 1000 rpm (just 250 rpm above idle) the decibel meter recorded a whisper of 67 dB. Even at full throttle (49.2 mph by the way) the 2100 never went over 90 dB, peaking at 89. At this time the engine is turning 4400 rpm and is hardly noticeable. Silence may be golden but in this case it?s the result of Regal?s fiberglass lined composite construction engine compartment.
To the aft, the integrated swim platform is practical and useful ? wide enough for a couple of swimmers and snorkel gear, the 2100 LSR incorporates a locking/release swim ladder that telescopes open or closed.
Forward, the bowrider?s seating is horseshoe shaped and trisected into storage compartments. Seating is deep enough, well padded for comfort and grab handles are found on both sides for extra safety. With a 24-degree deadrise the built-in drink holders on the bow will remain free of unintended liquids!
So there she is, 2900 pounds of trailerable fun. The patented FasTrac hull sets a new standard as the most efficient and responsive hull ever designed.
The bottom line here is, this boat handles like it?s on a rail, ergonomics are delivered with passengers in mind and efficiency is unparalleled in its class. The 2100 LSR bowrider is a terrific example of how a boat manufacturer matures along with the wants of its buyers.
